Tech Features of the 5 Series vs E-Class

The technology found in both cars are very similar, as well. They each come with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as a 12.3-inch center display. This center display can be controlled with the touch of your finger or even hands-free, using your voice. That way, you can change the song, adjust the climate-control system, or look up directions with simple voice commands.

The 2021 BMW 5 Series also has its unique Gesture Control. With a quick wave of your finger, you can answer an incoming call or turn down the volume. The 2021 E-Class doesn't offer that same convenient innovation.

The Performance You Want

While they both are engineered to give you great handling and agile performance, it is hard to beat the pure power that awaits in the 2021 BMW 5 Series. Of course, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes with an impressive powertrain, and at most, it can create 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

Still, it is no match for the available 4.4L BMW M TwinPower turbo V8 engine that is available with the 5 Series. This generates 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, which is enough power to quickly get the BMW 5 Series up to 60 MPH in just 3.6 seconds. At its best, the 2021 E-Class can go from 0 to 60 MPH in 4.9 seconds.

If it's efficient performance you are after, the BMW 5 Series also offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain. With the combination of an electric motor with the BMW TwinPower turbo engine, this provides plenty of power, while also conserving fuel at an excellent rate. With the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, there is no hybrid configuration for improved fuel economy.
