The Engine Lineup

There are a total of four unique engine platforms available on the 2020 BMW 5 Series. The standard kit sits in the 530i, where you’ll find a 2.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood. At 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, there is plenty of fun to be had, and the 33 mpg highway makes it easy on your wallet.

Next up is the 540i, where a 3.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged six-cylinder engine generates 335 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. This bump in power and acceleration is sure to put a smile on your face, and fuel economy remains strong at 30 mpg highway.

The most powerful of the traditional combustion engines is the M550i, and here you’ll find a 4.4-liter TwinPower turbocharged V8 rumbling under the hood. A stunning 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque will throw you back into your seat, and you’ll go from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

Finally, the BMW 530e is the hybrid version of this luxury sedan. It blends a 2.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged engine with an integrated electric motor to deliver a total of 300 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, and the electric motor means that the torque is instantaneous. A combined 69 MPGe allows you to go further between fill ups and it’s easier on the environment as well.
